Rate Estimator User Guide for Ameren Illinois Customers

Print Version (pdf)

Ameren’s Rate Estimator allows commercial and industrial customers to preview their power costs and plan more fully for the future. Our business customers in Illinois may find this tool particularly useful as they navigate the waters of customer choice and evaluate their options for energy supply.

Getting Started

To use the Rate Estimator, you will need to follow these steps (see highlights on screen shot):

1.

Enter your 10-digit customer account number (found on your Ameren bill). Enter the numbers only; no hyphens.

2.

Enter your 8-digit meter number (found on your Ameren bill).

3.

Click Go. After the monthly data is populated, take a moment to check the accuracy of the data. Fill in where data is missing and/or correct the data if it is inaccurate.

4.

This step is for DS4 customers only:

A.

If the Peak kVar Demand fields are not populated from the previous steps, click Calculate kVar data from billing data. The Peak kVar Demand data will be calculated, if possible.

B.

If an error message occurs, change the 90 (percent) value in the Estimate kVar from p.f. of field to an estimate for your facility’s Power Factor and click Estimate kVar from p.f. of.

5.

In the “Select Rate Criteria” section, select the appropriate 2007 DS (Delivery Service) Rate classification for non-residential customers based on your demand:

DS2: <150 kilowatt maximum demand in the past 12 months

DS3: 150-1,000 kilowatt maximum demand in the past 12 months

DS4: >1,000 kilowatt maximum demand in the past 12 months

6.

In the “Select Rate Criteria” section, select the appropriate Company―the Ameren Illinois utility company that delivers your power: AmerenIP, AmerenCIPS or AmerenCILCO.

7.

In the Use Power Price From field, select BGS (Basic Generation Service). BGS is the fixed price for the power supply obtained by Ameren through the Illinois Auction.

8.

Click Calculate.

9.

Click Submit when you reach the screen detailing winter/summer months to proceed to your estimate.

Understanding the Numbers

The Total Delivery Service charges from Ameren will apply regardless of who you choose to supply your energy needs. These charges help cover the costs of Ameren’s delivery infrastructure and around-the-clock service.

The Total Energy & Trans Chgs will give you an estimate of your future energy supply costs based on fixed prices obtained by Ameren for 2007 through the Illinois Auction.

The Total Charge near the bottom of the Rate Estimator calculation sheet is a summation of the Total Energy & Trans Chgs. and the Total Delivery Service.
